Cædmon Fellowship
Cædmon Fellowship
"It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life." - Oliver (10th Grade)
Increasingly, students face a fast-paced, technology-addicted world that loves efficiency, amusement, utility, and virtual reality; a world that has lost an appreciation for stillness, nature, craftsmanship, and incarnational community.
Seeking to keep the good, the true, and the beautiful a lived tradition, the Cædmon Fellowship starts with an immersive, technology-free week of life together. Each class is a small, select group of classically-educated high school students from across the country who gather to grow together.

The Fellowship week is built upon three, time-tested, classical disciplines:
1. Virtue formed through ora et labora.
Ora et labora is the classical monastic habits of liturgical prayer (ora) paired with physical labor (labora). Fellows learn to pray the Psalms throughout the day, following The Rule of St. Benedict (A.D. 516). Fellows also engage in physically demanding communal work — taking care of the animals and planting, tending, and harvesting the garden which provide much of the food eaten during the week.
2. Minds challenged by fides quærens intellectum.
Fides quærens intellectum means ‘faith seeking understanding.’ There is a Great Conversation that started thousands of years ago and will continue beyond our lifetime, rooted in faith and devotion to Christ, and seeking to understand God, man, the cosmos, and everything in between. Fellows join in the Great Conversation — contemplating those tough, timeless questions — with interdisciplinary, student-led ‘Great Book’ discussions which build upon and extend what Fellows have already learned through their curricula.
3. Fellowship strengthened through σχολή.
Σχολή (or scholé) is the classical concept of intentional, edifying leisure. Fellows spend time in quiet, thoughtful reflection. Fellows learn to make local, home-grown meals and beautiful music together. Fellows explore nature as they hike in the Shenandoah National Park, tube down the Shenandoah River, and wander through the Luray Caverns together. All things good for the soul.
Imagine what one amazing week of holistic living, incredible discussions, and beautiful community—without any digital technology or distractions—does for the heart, mind, and strength of a teenager. Students have spent their entire classical education reading about the good life; the Cædmon Fellowship is the chance to live it.

Once a Cædmon Fellow, always a Cædmon Fellow:
After leaving the Sinclair House, Cædmon Fellows become a member of a large alumni network of past Sinclair House attendees, are invited to return for regular weekend seminars, and are paired up with a classically-minded young professional mentor in their field of interest—academia, medicine, the trades, law, etc.—to help guide them in whatever comes after they graduate.

Any high school aged student is welcome to apply, but, in general, Cædmon Fellows are rising juniors and rising seniors (i.e. for Summer 2026, that’s students from the class of 2027 and 2028). Every year, 1 or 2 recent graduates (i.e. class of 2026) are also usually accepted.
Each Cædmon Fellowship week—two each summer—includes anywhere from 9 to 12 students. On average, the Fellowship is 50/50 young men and young ladies, but the ratio can vary. There’s always at least four young men and four young ladies in each Fellowship, i.e. the ratio is never skewed more than 2:3.
The ONLY exception made is for some Fellows to contact their parents, usually in the middle of the week, but sometimes more, if requested by the parents.
7am: Wake-up, Prayer (Prime), Breakfast
8am: Work Outside & Chores
10am: Prayer (Terce) & Discussion
12pm: Silence, Prayer (Sext), & Lunch
2pm: Prayer (None) & Discussion
4pm: Leisure
6pm: Silence, Prayer (Compline), & Dinner
8pm: Chores & Leisure
11pm: Lights Out
Every day there’s also some special excursion that interrupts the ‘normal day’, such as tubing down the Shenandoah River, touring the Luray Caverns, hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, watching a sunrise from a mountaintop, etc.
Every Fellowship is 100% covered by generous donors, except for transportation to and from Virginia (we’ll do a pick-up and drop-off runs at the IAD airport), and a $100 deposit.
Step 1. Apply: Start your application above. The application includes questions that require getting outside information, so please plan accordingly.
Step 2. Interview: After the application, qualified applicants will be contacted to set up a phone interview.
Step 3. Selection: After the interview, applicants will be notified by mail if they have been accepted, waitlisted, or rejected for a Cædmon Fellowship.
A student who loves learning, growing, working, praying, and doing life together with others.
A student striving after truth, goodness, and beauty.
A student who is or wants to become more comfortable with nature and silence.
A student looking for a life changing experience, not just one that looks good on a college application.
